In 2001 TOHF Trailers was established as a trailer repair
operation based in New Germany, Durban. Through hard work and long hours, along
with a commitment to their customers, the company soon established itself as an
efficient and dependable repair operation.
The decision to expand into trailer manufacturing was taken as a
natural extension to the repair facilities. Factory space was limited,
necessitating a move to larger premises, also in the New Germany area.
The design and engineering team, lead by Barton Bennett, the
owner of TOHF Trailers, began the research necessary to establish the company
as a manufacturer in the shortest possible time.
Through innovative designs, modern manufacturing methods and a
burning desire to succeed, the company's presence in the market place was soon
well established.
The introduction of the TOHF-Tract retractable container trailer
proved to be the niche product that all companies look for – quickly
establishing itself as the market leader, and proving that innovative thinking
and sophisticated design methodology was eagerly embraced by the trailer
operators.
Success followed success: Ultra-lightweight container trailers,
timber rigs with folding uprights to allow the trailer to be piggy-backed on
the horse for unladen travel, cane trailers, tankers as well as the more
conventional platform, skeletal and tautliner combinations.
Over the last six years or so, TOHF Trailers has expanded
considerably, both in factory space and staff, invested heavily in state of the
art CAD and 3D modeling software, installed a CNC machine shop and continuously
refined the trailer designs.
The utilization of laser cutting equipment has also had a marked
impact on the factory methodology, permitting previously unattainable accuracy
to become the normal state of affairs and considerably enhancing trailer
production.
Innovative and sound engineering practice, a dedicated team of
factory personnel as well as management, and a burning desire to produce the
best product possible has resulted in an excellent reputation for robust, light
weight trailers at competitive prices.
